Lygon Street, East Brunswick

Although it was not mentioned in The Age story, it seems that Lygon Street, East Brunswick may also have its clearway times extended -- a disaster for an area that has developed a vibrant street culture in the last five years after being almost a wasteland for a couple of decades.

Not only will it be devestating for Lygon St! We are traders on Sydney Rd,in the last 5 years pedestrian traffic has increased by at least 50 per cent.
Sydney Roads Cafe and Fashion culture will be effected.
All of the local Mums walking their children home from school or to Princes Park at 3.30pm will be clouded by extra car pollution. Say No to Clear Ways and Yes to extra bike lanes on Sydney Rd.

My kids go to Brunswick East Primary school and are among many kids from that school that cross Lygon St on foot and by scooter or bicycle between 3.30 and 4pm. An extension of clearway times will make it more dangerous for children returning home from school. Cars often fail to stop at pedestrian crossings during clearway times. This completely undermines efforts by our community to promote activity and save the environment by using non-car means of transport!
